The Thought Balloons We Have To Carry

A Sunday Reflection: Can you imagine how heavy a weight this world of ours carry because of us? I'm not talking about the concrete towers of the industrial revolution nor the 8 billion people that now roam the earth's surface. I'm talking about the countless personal issues that each single person is dealing with amidst the daily happenings that unfolds before him. Imagine if thought balloons were to be seen floating above us, how much a clutter it would create. That goes without saying it will become the world's biggest pollutant. A mother going to the grocery deep in thought about her husband's suspicious text messages to an officemate.  A brother going to school who can't stop yearning for that hottest new iphone at the Apple Store. A little girl watching TV wondering how to become a famous actress when she grows up. An aunt driving to work wanting to seek a doctor's second opinion about a lump in her ovary. A driver bringing his boss's kids  to school in sadness about his unschooled kids back in the province. Your yaya listening to the radio computing in her head on  how to stretch her mid month pay to cover her family's needs back home and saving for that Avon lipstick she's long been wanting to have. As each of us go our daily routines, we only see each other's facades that block away the many wandering thoughts that fill up our bottomless minds. Don't we wish sometimes that someone among the maddening crowd can see our thought balloons and he would just come up to us to give us answers, comforts or hope and just pop out the weight off our minds. If only we were as simple as our physical appearance, we would be less complicated and happier individuals. If there is one thing most common to all, it's not about the uncertainties in life that persuade us to work for certainty, but it is the fear or hope that some time in the future, we will have to face the realities of our thoughts and it is with hope that at that very same time in the future, we will be ready to face or act on those thoughts to the best of our ability. So many uncertainties, so many wants, so many what ifs, so many anxieties. If only it were as easy to pop out those burdening thoughts as popping balloons with a needle. And if only it were as easy as lifting it up to God and allowing Him to work on us, to let it be and to just surrender all our hidden thoughts to Him. I know it's not that easy, but sometimes it's the only way. And the next time you are about to get mad at someone for not doing it right or for not being in his right mind, take a moment to stand back and imagine how many thought balloons might be floating above him that keeps away the sun from his day. So how many thought balloons will i not see above you today? Later then...

My Favorite Chowking Dish EVER!

I thought Chowking had me at Orange chicken. hehe! But just the other day, I fell in love with Chowking all over again, not with their Echo campaign, but with their new Beef with Broccoli that tasted just so much better than those served by "real" chinese restaurants. Ok, so by real i mean fine dining. :P Had i not devoured it in its styro take out packaging, i would not have believed i was actually enjoying a chinese take out food from a fast food chain. The beef was so soft and tasty. The sauce was to die for, it was an ulam by itself. The broccoli was crunchy and very fresh. Words won't do it much justice. Really now, honest to goodness and with all sincerity, it's my favorite Chowking dish ever! Go try it and just don't take my word for it! Later then..

Dining at the Wine Museum

I have read from a magazine how good the food is at the Wine Museum. So last night, i brought along my dad and Kirby to find out how true it was. And yes, i was not disappointed one bit. In fact, i must say i was soooo impressed with the service and the food. We ordered paella, callos, pollo mexicano and cabbage with bacon and pumpkin soup. It took around 25 minutes for our food to arrive because it does take awhile to prepare the paella. It was an ok wait because the ambience was very relaxing, with nice paintings and lighting around. Ironically though, we didn't have any wine for dinner but plain, bottled water. The food tasted so much better than i expected. The paella was definitely superb with the rice just boiled to the right softness. With the very reasonable prices on the menu [total bill was only P1500], you would think they would scrimp on the ingredients. But no, each and every dish we enjoyed was prepared with more than enough of the finest ingredients. The big surprise was how much we enjoyed the sliced cabbage sauteed in bacon. T'was such a revelation how the subtleness of the cabbage blended so well with the saltiness of the bacon bits. Was hoping to leave room for dessert but then again, there's always a next time. There's so many other dishes in the menu that i must try soonest! Later then...
